Birth of a City
Population: 532
A nuclear holocaust wiped out most of the world, leaving it in an almost permanent state of nuclear winter. A city rises up out of the ashes like a Phoenix, the only one of it's kind in the whole world; a city known as Event Horizon.
Formed by families of survivors, it has evolved into a marvel of the new world, providing gainful employment, medical facilities and methane-powered light and heat. Clockwork wonders and steam-powered machines abound as Horizon's trade economy flourishes and an endless supply of clean, fresh water provides a beacon of hope to the last vestiges of humanity. Horizon is the only place where so many humans gather and live together, working side by side to create a better way of life.
But all is not what it seems...
The radiation scorched the skies to an everlasting twilight and sickened the land almost beyond repair. It blighted the weather and plagued the earth with acid rain, and constantly falling ash. It also encouraged strange genetic anomalies to come into being, creating vicious plantlife, violent predators and, worst of all, it transmogrified the very DNA of the human race to cause strange and terrifying mutations. As is the way with the human race, those without powers both feared and envied the small percentage who possessed wondrous abilities.
The Phreaks, as those with abilities came to be known, found themselves persecuted and banished from settlements and underground bunkers, exiled to live out their lives in The Wasteland and away from civilisation. Resenting this, the Phreaks went to war with the Norms and Horizon became a battleground, setting the stage for a new power struggle that could wipe out the human race once and for all...
AA. = After Apocalypse
0AA: WWIII
30AA: People and new generation begin to leave their bunkers to salvage for food and supplies. Wearing things similar to old WWII diving suits they travelled about to survive the harsh environment.
40AA: People congregate in the place which will become Horizon. 18 Families lay down the groundwork and begin to build themselves a home.
50AA: Event Horizon is established as a city. Phreaks bid for dominance in this new city and are driven off by the greater norm population with the help of the Mayor and several of the town founders.
60AA: Water filtration factory is established, providing clean water to the denizens of the city. Fossil Fuel supplies and gunpowder are no more.
61AA: A militia is organised to keep the city secure, both from thieving inhabitants and the increasingly vicious attacks carried out by the expanding number of Phreaks. They setup barracks and a prison.
63AA: The field hospital transfers to new premises and becomes a proper hospice.
70AA: The Clockwork factory is up and running; the production of small mechanical items, prosthetic limbs and the first clockwork motorbike (owned by the mayor) marks a momentous turning point in recent history. Clockwork guns are now being produced and can be purchased directly from the factory.
85AA: In hopes of expanding their reconnaissance and future expansion, the first new Airship is built from the concerted efforts of the town founders and other citizens of EH.
86AA: Horizon's first proper school is founded, with it's own building and basic curriculum. It is optimistically named "New Dawn"
90AA: The Steamworks factory is setup by The Mayor, with the aim of utilising the river for an unending fuel supply.
100AA: Present Day. The factories start to produce steam powered vehicles, weapons and gadgets, methane gadgetry and other clockwork items for general purchase, boosting Horizon's economy exponentially. It is the only known place with such a large population, production lines, an unending supply of clean water and pollution-free vegetation.
